Around 650 people flocked to the Portland market opening. Visitors kept saying ‘wonderful’ while eating the celebrity chefs’ Korean food.

Launched last year, the Korean American Coalition Oregon branch (KAC-OR, Chairman Jenny Kim) had great success with their “Korean Food Festival” which was held in Ecotrust, Portland Pearl District on the 11th of October.

Senator Charles Portland participated in a festival called ‘Mukja’. To officially start the event, he played jing, a Korean traditional instrument, with KAC-OR president Jenny Kim.

Oregon’s local tradition and fusion Korean food was on display, as well as mainstream celebrity chefs’ traditional and fusion Korean food, and famous Oregon foods.

Visitors who pre-purchased a 50 dollar ticket in the ceremony admired celebrity chefs’ food and enjoyed themselves. Kim expected about 500 visitors, mostly first and second generation Korean. However, Koreans as well as many foreigners visited. Nearly 650 people were in attendance and the festival was great success.

Members of the Korean Adoption Group and US-Korea Women’s Association Oregon Branch cooked and sold Korean food such as seafood pancakes, tteokbokki, bossam and bibim noodles, and side dishes such as rice wine or Korean soju cocktails. Moreover, K-Pop performances supported the festival.
