Queens Crossing Mall Holds Christmas Art Installation & Lighting Ceremony

Hyongnam Ahn, a renowned Korean-American sculptor and painter who spends his time primarily in Seattle and New York, installed his 3D mixed-media sculpture in New York in time for the holiday season.

As part of Queens Crossing Mall’s eighth annual Christmas lighting ceremony, community leaders turned on the lights in Ahn’s art installation called “Love in Harmony” on December 8th. Love in Harmony is a tower that rises 39 feet in height and is composed of plastic mesh, wooden structural elements and luminous LED lights which alternate colors every few minutes. The exterior of the tower is decorated with the word “love” written in Korean, Chinese and Spanish.

As many passersby and visitors took pictures, Ahn explained of his artwork:

Christmas in New York…

New York is considered the heart of the world by many, and desired as the greatest melting pot, but despite all of its attractions it can be the loneliest place during the holidays.

May the torch of light tower that I created lead our minds to hope and eternal harmony for all people, regardless of race and culture, this holiday season in the City of New York.

New York State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, New York State Assembly member Ron Kim and New York City Council member Peter Koo also attended the event to give their congratulatory speeches, and the Japanese group JR. EXILE gave a special live performance.
