Originally released in South Korea on December 15th, 2015, “The Himalayas” is planned to make its highly anticipated American debut at AMC Alderwood Theatres on January 1st, 2016. The film is based on a true story of loss, friendship, and drama in the treacherous Himalayan peaks.

Award-winning actors Hwang Jung-min and Jung Woo feature in the film as friends and weathered professional climbers. The two friends are both members of the 14th team to ever successfully scale Mt. Everest.

Years after their monumental accomplishment, Jung’s character Park Moo-Taek is reported missing back on Mt. Everest. The plot spins into a dramatic spiral when Hwang, playing Uhm Hong-Gil, rallies the team for one final climb to find their lost comrade.

Director, Lee Suk-hoon received considerable acclaim with his recent film, “The Pirates” (2014), which was ranked among the top 20 most watched films of all time in Korea.

Lee has undertaken his most challenging project to date with “The Himalayas”, attempting to portray the grandiose images and special effects of the harsh mountain environment, while staying true to the humorous yet heart-wrenching human element that has made his films a mainstay in the limelight of Korean cinema.
