The second Korean-American
police chief of Washington State has been appointed.
On January 3rd, Cheol
Kang (39) was officially approved as the police chief by the city council of
Mukilteo.
Kang had served the
city of Mukilteo Police Department for 14 years and since the former Police
Chief (Chuck Macklin) left the department in September last year, he had worked
as an acting director who led other 35 police officers.
Kang, who was born in
Busan (South Korea), grew up in Tacoma since he was 1and graduated from Wilson High School with an outstanding grade. He entered the
Air Force Academy before he transferred to University of Washington where he
completed the Navy ROTC program.
The first
Korean-American police chief of Washington State, Andy Hwang was followed by
Kang as the second police chief, and Kang will generalize security of over 23,000
residents in Mukilteo.During the
interview with Everett Herald on January 6th, he pledged that he
would do his best to keep the peace and prosperity for the city of Mukilteo.
