I-5 Closure this weekend

A massive freeway closure this weekend is expected to cause a major traffic slowdown in the heart of Seattle.
All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 - the state's busiest highway - will be closed into downtown Seattle.

And now the state Department of Transportation has a serious warning going out to motorists: stay away!
The massive closure will continue throughout the weekend.

Lane restrictions will start Friday at 8 p.m. around SouthCenter. And the freeway will be totally closed northbound starting at the West Seattle Bridge, all the way to Olive Way. Crews will be replacing many old expansion joints and pouring new concrete. And there just isn't room for the heavy equipment needed and have lanes still open.

The freeway closure is expected to dump thousands of cars and trucks onto surface streets, sparking unprecedented congestion until the freeway reopens early Monday morning.
And this isn't the only full closure weekend on northbound I-5. The next one is coming up on July 13 and 14.
