‘Paradox of Place’ showcased at the
Seattle’s Asian Art Museum
Artist Susie Lee invited to special
event held on Feb 26
Jennifer Kwon, president of the Korean
American Artists Association of Washington State, highlighted a contemporary
Korean art exhibition, Paradox of Place: Contemporary Korean Art, being held at
the Seattle Asian Art Museum (SAAM) through March 13.
“It’s the first of contemporary Korean
art at the major art museum in Seattle,” Kwon said, “its successful conclusion
will lead to further opportunities to present a variety of Korean art in
Seattle.”
The exhibition, co-organized by the
Seattle Art Museum and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea,
and sponsored by the Korea Foundation and Consulate General of the Republic of
Korea in Seattle, features the essence of contemporary Korean art by six
renowned Korean artists – Noh Suntag, Yang Haegue, Yee Sookyung, Lee Yongbaek,
Lim Minouk and Jung Yeondoo – in diverse mediums such as photography,
sculpture, mixed-media installation and video.
The audience who attended the exhibition
had favorable things to say, one quote being “it was fascinating to experience
Korean contemporary art, developed in modern Korea.”
The SAM is planning on opening special
events to promote the exhibition.
The first event will be held on February
26 at 6 p.m., with special guest Susie Lee, a Korean American video artist,
sharing her view of art with the public. She holds a Master’s degree in Physics
and Biochemistry from Yale University, and is an active artist who works as the
CEO and founder of a dating application named ‘Siren’ designed only for women.
Additionally, I am Sun Mu, a documentary
film of a defected artist, Sun Mu, will be displaying at the SAM on March 3 at
7 p.m.
The SAAM is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m.
