Republic of Korea and the state of Washington, both of which are highly regarded for their Information Technology (IT), joined forces to drive the growth of“Internet of Things”.

KISA(Korea Internet Security Agency), a part of Korea Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning in charge of internet service, hacking, virus protection, personal information, and WTIA (Washington Technology Industrial Association) successfully signed the MOU in the World Trade Center on the 13th of October.

Many representatives from different organizations, namely Kim Jong Pyo from KISA, and Michael Scuztler from WTIA, Redwood Stephens from Synapse and Bruce Burns from Amazon were all present at the ceremony.

A couple representatives from Korean organizations were also present at the ceremony, which contributed more meaning for Koreans as well.

Since the signing of MOU, both organizations are now expected to share necessary information and network that will develop the “Internet of Things”. To initiate this cooperation, President Michael from WTIA is planning on vising Korea for two weeks to discuss with other companies in development of “internet of Things” with the help of KISA.

“Internet of Things” is a new technology that could connect “things” with network to share information. This works not only for electronics, but can also work in healthcare, remote reading of meter, smart home, smart car etc. This technology was used for developing items such as heart rate monitor, Google glass, and Nike pure band.

The sharing of such technology between Korea and Washington was a plausible approach, but the fact that 1stgeneration of Koreans contributed to the signing of MOU makes this ceremony even more meaningful.

Korean officials’ effort in stepping out of their “comfort zone” to enhance business opportunities is considered more meaningful than the treaty itself.
