Congressman Adam Smith of Washington’s 9TH congressional district is getting closer to Koreans in the district.

Smith invited all Korean residents of the 9th district to the first town hall meeting of the year at Federal Way City Hall on February 16. He talked about various issues such as the Federal Way Transit Center and Obamacare.

Even though he recently had pelvic surgery and was still recovering, he held the town hall meeting as a leader. He strongly emphasized, “The recent U.S. federal government continues its efforts to find a clever scheme not to increase taxes without reducing the budget."

Leaders of the Korean community, including, Young-min Park, Jae-wook Kim, Kyung-ho Ko, Hee-jeong Lee, Shirley Kim and Susan Lee, participated in the meeting and had time for a question and answer session.

Susan Park, the CFO of Cornerstone (Christian fellowship), voiced her opinion for the improvement of Obamacare, stating “There are so many unrealistic aspects when you sign up for ObamaCare, especially the deductible clause.”

Smith has maintained a close relationship with the Korean community, awarding Korean students who take the initiative to volunteer every year. While giving greetings for the New Year through the Korean press in Seattle, he mentioned, “May peace, prosperity and health be with the Korean community.”
