$2,000 Scholarship is Given to Lee Seung-young and Lee Yoon-woo in Celebration of the 23rd Anniversary of KABA
The Korean American Bar Association (KABA) of Washington, an association of the Korean American legal profession, held the 23rd anniversary of its founding at the Four Seasons Hotel, in downtown Seattle, Washington on February 19th. Lawyer Jessica Yoo (Yoo Na-young) became the new president of KABA.
Yoo, a 1.5 generation Korean American who is bilingual in both Korean and English, is going to run KABA for one year following her predecessor, Dan Shin.
Around 150 legal professionals from the Seattle area participated, including Jeong Hyun-ah, the president of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce, Kim Soon-ah, a director of the Korean American Coalition in Washington, and Jeong Sang-gi, a judge in King County. President Yoo emphasized that she is going to do her best to strengthen the values of leadership, community and service in the Korean American community and American society as a whole, the driving purpose of KABA.
Edward Jung, a former senior position-holder at Microsoft and founder of Intellectual Ventures (IV), was the keynote speaker. He asked for attendees to nurture a challenging spirit.
Meanwhile, KABA granted $2,000 scholarships to Lee Seung-young, a former manager at Microsoft and currently studying at the University of Washington's School of Law, and Lee Yoon-woo, also studying at the UW's School of Law. $500 was granted to Ho Hye-jin, currently studying at Seattle University's School of Law.
Asiana Airlines Seattle branch (branch manager, Kim Tae-yeop) sponsored a round-trip plane ticket to Korea as encouragement for KABA, which has devoted much to the Korean American community and acted as mediators with the American community. An Indian whose name was not reported was given the golden opportunity in the raffle.
