The City of Sungnam and the Microsoft signs a MOU on the 'CityNext' program

The City of Sungnam in Republic of Korea and Microsoft agreed on signing on a MOU (memorandum of understanding) to redesign Sungnam in more creative and innovative way.


On April 6, an economic mission led by Jae Myung Lee, the mayor of Sungnam, visited Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, WA and met with Aubrey Edwards, GM Mobile App Monetization, to sign on a MOU on ‘I.C.B.M R&D and CityNext Project’. I.C.B.M stands for IoT, Cloud, Big Data, and Mobile which is a leading technology that is needed to transform a society or a city into a software based society/city


CityNext is a program which Microsoft developed to offer different governments or firms that plans to redesign their governments/firms into more innovative way. Microsoft supports them by offering technology and software so that their clients can redesign their administrative, educational, cultural, medical agencies, and so on in an advanced way.


Many of the leading cities and governments around the world have already participated in the CityNext program. The City of Chicago utilized the CityNext Program provided by the Microsoft and built an integrated management system that manages energy use in 450,000 buildings. The City of London and Singapore are also known for redesigning their social systems more efficiently by using CityNext program.


The City of Sungnam became the first city to sign on a MOU between the Microsoft on utilizing CityNext program. Mayor Lee stated that “With great CityNext program provided from the Microsoft, the City of Sungnam will transform into more modernized and innovative city which provides better education and safety to the residents.”
