Lee Came out to Protect Rights of Independent Community Bankers through Consultation with Federal Senators and Representatives

The President of UniBank, the only Korean bank on the west coast, Lee Chang-yeol was elected as the director of the ICBA Minority Bank Council to speak for, and protect, the rights of all independent community bankers in the US.

On April 15th, UniBank said President Lee was recently appointed as the director of the ICBA Minority Bank Council for a year.

The ICBA, established in 1930, is an organization that protects the rights of community bankers in the US.

The ICBA-affiliated organization, the Minority Bank Council, helps minority bankers to solve problems concerning inequality through discussion with federal senators and representatives. It is aimed at establishing a foundation to be provided for equal and good financial services in minority communities throughout the US.

Among 6,000 community banks in the US, 48% of minority-owned banks are Asian-Americans.

President Lee emphasized “the United States regards the value of equality as important. To prevent discrimination from a lack of understanding, it is important to enlighten congressmen with regards to minority cultures and finance banking.”

President Lee accepted the request from the ICBA to serve as the director of the Minority Bank Council.

As he serves as the director of the Minority Bank Council, he starts his duty by participating at the Washington Policy Summit held by the ICBA. In addition, he plans to take part in the Minority Bank Summit held by the FDIC in July.

Currently, President Lee, also the director of the Community Bankers of Washington (CBW), is praised for bringing prestige to the Korean bank community with his new appointment.
